Asides from networking
online via social media platforms, active networking in person can help you
when you are seeking to build up your career, get a job or improve your
business. The idea behind having a network is to be in contact with people who
share similar goals with you, or whose services is set up in such a way that it
is beneficial for all.
Bear in mind that
networking is a planned effort, and it is constantly ongoing. You must
strategize on how you approach a new crowd, how your present crowd can benefit
more and whether or not to drop your current circle for a more useful one.
As much as what you
know is really important, who you know is also very important, and this
information is used by successful industry professionals.
Make time to ask yourself
these questions:
1.
Are the people around
me supportive?
2.
Do my present circle
challenge me to do more? To be better? To think bigger?
3.
Has the course of my
life been changed for better since I met them?
4.
Have I also been able
to impact positively in their lives?
The answers you get
will determine what you will do next.
To build a good network:
1.
You should be ready to
learn from others.
2.
You should have good
retentive skills …remembering a person’s name can do a lot for you.
3.
You should be ready at
all times.
4.
You should be ready to
contribute
5.
You should be careful
not to focus on just yourself
6.
You should follow up
conversations.
It’s not enough to
have a glowing conversation with someone of interest …reach out, get connected
and follow up
